Walking Group A

Walking Group A                John Draper  455356

Both Sally and I are looking forward to being able to lead the ‘Group A’ walks again and walks have been selected for the next programme which commences Wednesday 22nd April. (The March walks will be on the dates and at the venues shown in the current programme).

Because of the possibility that we may not be able to lead the walks in the new programme, it would be appreciated if some volunteers would lead for us. Details and maps are available and Sally and I will do all we can to assist you.

We both wish to express our thanks to those members of the group who have put in so much work and effort to ensure that our activities continue and that the group remains strong.  Thank you all.

March 2011 Update: What a difference a year makes! The walkers’ combined walk and Christmas Lunch was held in December, starting at the Ashley Wood Golf Club where we had lunch. The walk went south towards Charlton Marshall and was planned as an easy stroll to see the views before lunch. What did we see?  Nothing! Just mist and fog! When we walked from the same venue for the 2009 Christmas Lunch, it was in bright sunshine and we sat outside the Clubhouse to have our pre-lunch drinks.

The January 2011 Group A walk took us from Winterborne Kingston via the Roman Road to Winterborne Zelston. We stopped there at the church and some of the walkers were surprised that such a pretty church in its riverside setting was only few hundred yards from the main A31. Many had seen the sign for Winterborne Zelston but had never visited the village.

Autumn 2010 Update: The group is still very active and we always get a good turnout. Thanks to everyone concerned, we have never had to cancel a walk through lack of someone willing to lead. We try to vary the walks as much as possible and to visit different areas of Dorset and near parts of Wiltshire. A programme is drawn up for a six month period so members have advanced information on the venues, dates etc. This is available on request.

March 2010 update: Once again, Sally and I must thank the members of the Group who have lead the walks and helped to keep the Group walking whilst we have been indisposed. We were fortunate that we did not have to cancel any of the planned walks because of the weather. The Christmas Walk and Lunch were a great success with 40 people attending on a beautiful sunny day at The Ashley Wood Gold Club.  We had to resort to plan B on the January walk at Fiddleford to avoid flooded fields.
