Strollers - Walking (Short Flat)

After threats of physical violence, I have changed the name from the “Doddlers” to the “Strollers”! The first walk was a success with twelve in the group. Because of the snow and ice, the January walk was cancelled.  A programme for the next four months has been compiled and copies are available from John on 455356. Starting at 10.00am and aiming to finish at 12.00 noon, the walks will be up to three miles and there will be time to stand and stare. Some will be off-road so sturdy footwear is advisable.

I used to organize Short Break Holidays for a walking group and would be prepared to consider organizing such like for U3A members. My breaks were walking trips and I would be pleased if someone with other interests would be willing to help me to select places to visit and activities to do on a short break holiday.  Interested in joining the trips or in helping?  Please phone me, John Draper on 455356.

March 2011 Update: I am pleased to report that we have had more members on the last couple of walks. A number of them have expressed surprise that they have seen places very near Blandford which were completely new to them. New members are welcome.

Autumn 2010 Update: I have been very pleased with the response and the number of members who turn out for these walks. I try to keep them as easy as possible but at the same time, I aim to take members into the countryside, avoiding built up areas. Stout footwear is advisable as we do go through fields and along tracks. Ladies are advised to wear trousers.

As on all our walks in the country, the scenery is beautiful but unfortunately wild life seems to be in decline. I remember a time when the hedges used to move with the number of Hedge Sparrows in the branches and when flocks of Yellow Hammers fluttered around the tops. Rabbits and hares were common and to watch hares at play is an experience all of its own.
