Mah Jong
New Members - almost full to capacity but would welcome newcomers and perhaps a second
group could be set up in due course.
We play Mah Jong from 2pm to 5pm with a break in the middle for a cup of tea. We
are a small friendly group playing for enjoyment, although we do like to win but
don't gamble!
Some basic knowledge is helpful but not essential.
We have sufficient sets of Mah Jong for current numbers but if the group expands, more may be required.
The game is played with illustrated sets of Mah Jong tiles and we play to British rules (more or less!)

March 2011 Update: We continue to have a thriving group meeting on the first and third Thursday afternoon of the month. Due to the nature of the game, numbers are important and we do sometimes have space for additional players when regulars are unable to attend, particularly during the summer months. If you don’t know the game, do come along and watch. It is not difficult and we have a fun afternoon whilst playing.
Autumn 2010 Update:The Group has been a little quieter over the summer as members have tended to have other commitments, although we have played from time to time. We will be getting back to it in earnest in September and have one or two new members showing interest. If you don’t know the game and would like to find out more, please feel free to make arrangements to come along and watch a session.
Summer 2010 Update: Mah Jong continues to be a thriving group although we could take a couple more players, particularly as “stand-ins” when regulars cannot attend. We have eight regular players but invariably there is someone unable to come along. If you are new to he game, why not come and watch and even play a “dummy” hand to see how it is done. The basics are not difficult to learn and it is a very pleasant way of spending an afternoon in great company and with a good cup of tea!
March 2010: Mah Jong is a thriving group with eight regular members. We play usually in Blandford but occasionally in Iwerne Minster (lifts can be arranged). As we meet in members’ houses, we can only accommodate two tables at any given time but if more people were to join, it might be possible to hold more sessions.
As we invariably find that not all our regulars are able to attend on each occasion, there is plenty of room for new members. Beginners are welcome but we would suggest that anyone new to the game comes as an observer to start with. We are a very friendly group who enjoy our afternoons of Mah Jong and a cup of tea!
