Since much school French started from a written base and left the learner struggling when faced with the need to understand or produce spoken language these groups have an oral emphasis.
The Tuesday group was intended to accommodate beginners, and the one on Wednesday the more advanced, though the division is not rigid.
With video and DVD materials available, individual needs can be met.
Gerald Harrison runs an additional group on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays using taped material for practice.
March 2010 update: The Tuesday group has dwindled to one really regular member (scope here for some very individual attention especially for anyone struggling or lacking confidence)
The Wednesday group with Gerald Harrison meets during the 2nd and 4th weeks of the month for mainly tape-based practice.
My group on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays has been listening to some songs of Georges Brassens as well as having general conversational practice. We shall try songs by other artists and maybe some short but accessible poems over coming months as members seem to have enjoyed the songs we have studied so far.
