Writing for Pleasure
No level of knowledge is required other than an enthusiasm for the written word and a life-long interest in reading matter of all kinds. As the name suggests, we write to give ourselves and others pleasure. Homework is undertaken and read out at the following meeting. We cover writing techniques and different styles of writing, e.g. short stories, articles, poetry. We are self-led but always endeavour to learn something new at each meeting by way of positive feedback between members. We are not highbrow but we believe we work to and maintain a good standard. We have hopes of publishing a short anthology of our writing but this has not yet materialised. We wish to remain a small group in order to give everybody a chance to air their writing and receive the comments of the other members. We rely on each other's constructive criticism as a means of improving our standard of writing.

Spring 2011 Update: Following the highly successful “What We Do” Exhibition in March, we have acquired four new members, two of whom are men and we are delighted to welcome them into what has formerly been an all-female group. They have settled in bravely and have nobly said that they are enjoying the work we do and wish to continue! We are carrying on our established pattern of working, at the same time experimenting with different techniques and approaches. A few of us are taking part in an evening activity at Salisbury Playhouse where we have been invited to write some dialogue which some of the theatre’s actors will perform, unrehearsed, on the spot. It should be most interesting – if more than a little daunting! Watch this space! Two of us are continuing to attend a Creative Writing course in Blandford from which we are able to take back to the Group some useful hints and tips. The Group now has its maximum working number and we cannot take on new members at present
