April 2010: Eight members of the Astronomy Group, plus eight other members of Blandford U3A visited the Intech Science Centre and Planetarium at Winchester, organised by Lynn Hawkey.  We started with a film show on Black Holes had been arranged for us. The film show helped our understanding of this difficult concept and we were all keen to see more in these superb surroundings. This is the UK’s largest capacity planetarium with extremely comfortable seats that made viewing the overheads displays a pleasure. The Management allowed us to join the next show which was a presentation on Meteorites that had been organized for a group of Key Stage Three children – much easier to understand!

It was a fascinating visit and one we shall probably repeat as many of us wish to learn much more about this vast world above our heads. Perhaps on the second visit we shall have more time to play on the enormous range of hands-on science activities!
